Was there any part of the Ryukyu Islands that was a penal colony?

Ryukyu is part of the island chain that sits in the Pacific Ocean between Japan and Taiwan, whose largest member is Okinawa. There is a good chance that Japan used one of the islands as a penal colony but I don't know for sure, sorry.
