When comic books are turned into movies, why are the storylines distorted so badly??

it wouldnt harm to keep the original storyline right?? at times it's such a disappointment for comic fans who watch the movie!! for example, batman begins, the story was mangled beyond recognition!!! ofcourse, maybe id respect such attempts for being good movies, but not good adapatations!!!
